My washing machine is about 3 years old. After the wash cycle, It
has stopped spinning and draining automatically during the cycle
process. I suspect someone may have turned the dial before the
cycle was finished. We can use it, but have to manually set to
drain and spin.

Jeff...simply turning the dial during a cycle, should not have caused the problem.
I do not know the design of your machine, but the mechanical timers driven by
a small motor, which were used for many years, would not get damaged in this way.
Does the knob advance after a wash cycle? If you're handy these things can be taken apart and played with.
Just do not take the cam switches apart, if that's what you have.
